While working as a garden teacher, a student told me he did not believe in climate change and thinking about it made his belly ache. In this moment I understood that some truths overwhelm us and we somatically respond: our bodies find ways to carry on when things become unbearable. We push feelings away, we dissociate, we clamp down. Ultimately, it causes more suffering, sometimes showing up as pain or numbness in our bodies. I knew I wanted to work to help others build the emotional and spiritual capacity to deal with the overwhelming realities of our world that we all face.
As a therapist, I show up sturdy, non-judgmental, compassionate, direct, and warm. I ask questions to get to know you: what you love, what is a struggle. I help you identify the distinctive patterns in your life. I consider with you how personal and systemic power dynamics shape your experience. We work together toward long-lasting change.
I hold a master’s degree in Somatic Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies. I previously worked at Blue Oak Therapy Center in Berkeley, CA. I work relationally in the tradition of intersubjectivity, and somatically, using elements of neuro-biological somatic trauma modalities including Sensorimotor and Somatic Experiencing with embodied mindfulness practices.
